Halcyon, a hotel in Cherry Creek Review

The hubby and I like to get away for a night or two now and then, but have only managed a couple of times since our little one came along. One of our trips was to a nice little neighborhood in a South area of Denver known as Cherry Creek. Halcyon has a lovely atmosphere. From the time you check-in at the "Kitchen Counter", you feel like you've arrived at a friend's place. They offer coffee, handcrafted espresso drinks, fresh pastries and the basics information needed for your stay. (Wine & Beer are also offered from 3-9pm daily.)

We stayed in a Junior Suite, which gave us a living room and a bedroom. Both rooms had a Juliette balcony which was lovely for bringing in the fresh air and looking out on the shops on the street. (We do love a little people watching, and it is hard to go wrong with that here.) The room had a balance between luxury and a worn-in, comfortable, and somewhat hipster feel. The record player was fun to use and our room came with a Beach Boys album ready to play. I will say that it wasn't actually my favorite record experience. The warm background noise I love with records was a bit much and had to be turned way up to even hear the music. The hotel is in the SELECT hotel collection and the AMEX collection as well which gave us a $100 credit and a bottle of wine with a nice note. (We used the credit to cover our valet parking, but went out for dinner (801 Chophouse - Good but not amazing) and Breakfast (Syrup - Really Fantastic). So we didn't use the rest of the amount. Also, we could not apply the $100 toward the Destination Amenity Fee of $30) They also accommodated a late checkout for us.

What makes the hotel extra special?

The Gear Garage. By talking to a host, you can reserve a number of fun items to improve your stay at the hotel and help you discover the area. From games and other records to bikes, go pros, and cameras, you can try out some fun new ways to experience the city around you!

The Lattes and snacks at the front were also pretty fantastic.

Who should stay here?

Those who like a little luxury, but want to be comfortable above all. Those who like added value and getting out into the neighborhood around your hotel. Those who like to feel like they are staying with a friend.
